About The Mental Edge
For over 25 years, we've dedicated our lives to unlocking the untapped potential within athletes, young adults, and high-performers. As the founder and CEO of Mental Edge, Inc., Shaun Goodsell leads a mission to redefine what it means to thrive under pressure. Whether you're an aspiring pro athlete, a parent navigating your child's competitive world, or a professional seeking that extra edge in business and life, our work is about equipping you with the mental tools to turn challenges into breakthroughs.
We're Shaun Goodsell, M.A., Certified High Performance Coach, and Kelsey King, Mental Performance Coach. What drives us? A deep belief that mastery isn't a destination—it's a lifelong pursuit. In sports, business, and personal growth, the world doesn't pause for us to catch up. It demands more. And that's where mental toughness becomes your greatest asset.
NICE TO MEET YOU
I'm Shaun Goodsell
My path to mental performance coaching started on the rink. Growing up immersed in athletics, I experienced firsthand how the mental game can make or break a performance. After earning my Bachelor's Degree in Communications and Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology, I channeled my passion for sports and psychology into helping others.
I've worked with thousands of individuals—from Division I college athletes to youth teams and elite competitors—building quick rapport and fostering transformations that last. My early struggles and successes in sports, where I often felt overlooked, taught me resilience. It showed me that validation doesn't come from external wins alone; it stems from conquering the internal battles.
Today, with decades of experience, I've trained 1000's of elite athletes (including the Pros), coached national teams, and even been a lifelong client of my own methods (starting young!). This blend of academic rigor, athletic grit, and empathetic insight allows me to connect deeply, helping you dismantle self-defeating patterns and build unshakeable confidence.

Our Philosophy: Not Good or Bad—Just Better
We don't see performance in black-and-white terms. There's no "right" or "wrong," "good" or "bad." Instead, we focus on the why behind your results: What factors fuel a quality performance? What small shifts can elevate your game?
Mental skills aren't innate gifts—they're learnable strengths. Through our programs, like Foundations To Mastery and Self Mastery, we strengthen the four pillars of a resilient mind: focus, confidence, emotional control, and intentional action. It's about designing your life with purpose, embracing failure as feedback, and showing up stronger every time.
We also empower the unsung heroes: parents and coaches. By fostering meaningful conversations and reinforcing unconditional value—separate from performance outcomes—we create environments where growth flourishes without fear or delusion.
